GENNARO ESPOSITO

The region of Gragnano pasta, San Marzano tomatoes, buffalo mozzarella and Sorrento lemons is where Gennaro Esposito grew up. Greatly inspired by his mother, who was a passionate home cook, Esposito developed a strong sense for the quality of local produce and a passion for the seasonality of dishes and their ingredients.

Not surprisingly these influences led him from school straight to Catering college. But it was a chance meeting with Alain Ducasse on holiday in Positano that changed the outlook of the young, enthusiastic chef.

He was invited to work in the kitchens with Franck Cerutti and Alain Ducasse at Louis XV in Monaco and Plaza Athenee in Paris. Here he learned the military style benefits of perfect kitchen organisation, meticulous attention to detail and the ultimate respect for produce.

Returning to his home region of Campania he opened La Torre del Saracino in 1992 and the transformation of his restaurant into one of the most elegant venues in the region began.

His cuisine is based on the quality ingredients on his doorstep from seafood and meats, vegetables and fruit – some of which are grown in the family garden – to artisan pastas. Among its many awards and accolades, La Torre del Saracino gained its first Michelin star in 2001 and its second in 2008.
